Miami - 1926 and 1928 Hurricanes

Description:
The 1926 storm that slammed into South Florida was described by the U.S. Weather Bureau in Miami as "probably the most destructive hurricane ever to strike the United States." It hit Fort Lauderdale, Dania, Hollywood, Hallandale and Miami. It was considered the storm that broke Florida’s real estate boom. Yet two years later in 1928, another storm, the Okeechobee hurricane (Hurricane San Felipe Segundo) proved even more damaging. It was the first recorded hurricane to reach Category 5 status on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale in the Atlantic basin.
